Breast Cancer Survivor
"I almost postponed my annual mammogram when given the chance to extend a family vacation, but my husband insisted the test was too important to wait," explains Grace Parys. "He was right." The couple urges all women to protect their health with recommended mammograms, emphasizing that Grace had no personal or family history of breast cancer. The surprising diagnosis made her feel like a scattered jigsaw puzzle, Grace recalls, "but while working with the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center staff, every piece fell into place."
Key members of Grace's care team included Breast Care Center program coordinator Kathryn Simone, APRN; surgical oncologist James Reilly, MD; oncologist/ hematologist Stefano Tarantolo, MD; and radiation oncologist Tien-Shew Huang, MD. "The staff gave me the confidence I needed for this journey, and, from beginning to end, they treated me not as a patient or a number, but as a friend."
